A buddy of mine is going to a very difficult time. As of two weeks a go, he was losing his job and would basically be unemployable for six months, his marriage was all but over, and he was having to sell the house he built himself just a year ago. This guy had all the reasons to be angry and negative towards everything and no one would have blamed him. Then came the one person that could change all that. GOD
He (my bud) amazes me. He has made mistakes in his past and knows that he has to live with those mistakes. He has rekindled his relationship with God and has turned it over to him. Not only does his words say this, but his actions scream this. And what good does turning it over to God do? Well...
His house is being sold to someone that appreciates the hard work that he put into it (Temple and I are buying it) and he is picking up side construction jobs to make ends meet. He is financially strapped, but not going hungry. These are all great, but what about his marriage? This is the part that just overwhelms me.
This latest series of events have broken both of them. They have moved back in together and are actually requesting to spend time with each other. They are reading Gods word together and praying together. They are crying through this time together and holding each other. This is just overwhelming to me. He fought to keep their marriage together and failed, but as soon as he let God into the situation everything changed. I see a future in their marriage now that was not there a week ago.
Will they stay together? All I can say is that there is a since of love in the relationship that I didn't see in the past.
Through all of this I can say that God has used him to inspire me. I have everything I could want. I have a beautiful wife and wonderful marriage, a job that I love that is very stable, and not a worry about losing my house. Last week, all this went away from him and he turned to God. What do I do? I have allowed my church situation and my own insecurities to put me in to a spiritual lull. Are these the words that a Deacon of a church should admit to. The answer is YES, if it is true. This guy looks to me as a spiritual rock, but I am pluff mud compared to him. I am one of those people who truly do the right thing most of the time. I never come close to making this mistakes that he does, but I would trade that for the brokenness, humility, and 100 % dependance on God that he has shown over the last couple of days.
I am amazed, humbled, and in awe.
Please pray that thieir Marrage will continue to get better and this situation will be worked out. Also, pray for me as I struggle with my spiritual lull.
